Gougane Barra

G’day again everybody.

Today didn’t go as we had originally planned.

Leanne’s bug has multiplied and she was having trouble with both coughing and stuffed sinuses ðŸ¤§ðŸ˜·ðŸ¤’. She didn’t sleep well last night either, so this morning we headed off to the quack 🥸 and see what they had to say and hopefully get some DRUGS🥳🥳 (antibiotics) to help things along. Of course on a Sunday this isn’t a trivial exercise, and then we had to wait on the chemist, so it was after 12:00 before we got away.

We had intended touring one of the peninsulas and possibly going out to see Mizen Head and peer out over the Atlantic Ocean from basically Ireland’s southwest corner. Since we had already lost half the day, on Patsy’s recommendation we headed to Gougane Barra, a little church on a peninsula in the middle of Gouganebarra Lake.

Today was still grey and drizzly, but it was the perfect environment for this particular visit. The area is particularly scenic and it was just lovely walking around taking in the countryside.

There’s really not much there apart from the church, a hotel and a cafe, so we hit the cafe for a light late lunch overlooking the lake.

Since we had a late lunch, it was already about 3:00 and Leanne still wasn’t feeling 100%, so we thought we just head straight through to Killarney where we’re staying tonight and make an early day of it.

Our hostess must have kissed the Blarney Stone as she loves a chat.

This of course gave us exciting opportunity to catch up with our washing, so we spent some exciting time in Love Laundry watching our clothes going around in circles.

We ate at Genting Thai tonight and had really a nice meal to top off the day.
