Last full day in Copenhagen - Monday
Today is tail end Charlie - the last full day of our trip before we fly home.
We planned the first bit of the day and would then see what followed, with a trip to Tivoli in the evening to round out the holiday.
We firstly meandered along the harbour front down to Nyhavn, which was only 2 blocks form our hotel. While no doubt a great reminder of times past, it is getting a bit touristy - those bloody tourists are everywhere 😁😁. Still, it was interesting to see and work out how the tall masts got into the harbour with the low bridges.
From Nyhavn we wandered over the Inderhavnsbroen (showing true dansih imagination: Inner Harbour Bridge) into Christianshavn.
Eventually we came to the Church of Our Saviour. Its beautiful inside and out, but you can also climb to the top - on the outside! 400 steps later and the view is superb, although the last few steps aren't very wide.
From Christianshavn we headed to Gammel Strand (Old Beach) to book a canal cruise and had open-faced sandwiches in a nearby square (under blankets - the breeze had blown up).
The cruise was entertaining, especially squeezing under some of the bridges!
After the cruise we Metroed (if that's a word) to visit Frederik's Church and Amalienborg, the home of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark (and Mary). Not quite as impressive or locked away as some other royal palaces (although the guards are out and about), but still impressive.
Afterwards we stopped at a bar for a fortifying wine and beer before relaxing in our room for a couple of hours. We Metroed (now it is a word) into The central station and crossed the road to Tivoli.
It is all decked out for Halloween with about a thousand pumpkins. The park is beautiful at night with all the lights, but the map they give you is useless! We wandered around enjoying the lights and had a nice fish and chip dinner (that cost a small fortune).
We found the Illums Bolighus store and it had a better choice of Xmas stuff than their Strøget store. Leanne finally found some decorations she wanted, so the night was a success.
