Escape the Rain Day - Friday
Today we finally escaped the grey, rainy weather we've basically had from Day 1. We drove from Keswick to the Cotswalds - 250 miles of a mix of arterial and motorway driving. The weather improved as we headed south, efentually turning sunny as we reached the Cotswalds.
The M1 was very busy - a bit like a busy Geelong Road for about 200+km. With the mix of trucks and nuff-nuffs doing 55-60 mph (90-100 km/h), most traffic doing around the speed limit of 70 mph (115-120km/h) and the occassional low-flying Audi or Range Rover, you had to stay awake!
I also saw the occassional interesting road sign:
We are staying just outside Bourton-on-Water, a very pretty little town, with the main street straddling the River Windrush. After we checked in, we walked into town and explored a bit before hitting a pub for a relaxing G&T and a beer in the beer garden - bliss after all the cold and damp.
We then wandered back towards home, enjoying dinner on the way.
The walk in the dark back to the B&B was a bit perilous with only a narrow footpath next to high-speed traffic in the dark well beyond the street lights, but we made it home in one piece.
