Into Belfast - Saturday
OK I know I’ve been slack but I’m finally getting back to this.
Saturday we headed off bright and early to get to Belfast in time to drop off the car. Basically it was just a drive through the countryside keeping to the motorways and highways to keep our travel time low.
We arrived at our hotel, the Europa - which apparently is Belfast most bombed hotel, having been bombed 30 odd times during the Troubles, about 10:30. Hopefully we will survive!
We dropped our bags off to the concierge and then drove the car to the airport to return it. We did 1730 kilometres all up in it over the last seven days so we gave it a workout - and got it a bit dirty. All the speeds and distances are in miles in the UK, so I changed the car units so I didn't have to mentally convert all the time - hence the final mileage of 8743 miles.
There’s a bus from the George Best Belfast City Airport, which is actually only three or four kilometres from the city centre. So we caught the 600 route bus, which dropped us at the bus station immediately next to the hotel for the massive fee of £2.20.
We decided that we had nothing special to do that afternoon and the weather wasn’t crash hot so it was a good time to do our washing. We headed back to the hotel and rescued one of the bags that was full of dirty laundry and headed to the laundromat and did our washing. After we sat around for an hour and a half or so doing that and had a cup of tea in a quick lunch we dropped everything back at the hotel.
As we couldnt check in until, 3:00 we wandered around and checked out the city centre.
Since it was late in the weather wasn’t great, we basically crashed after we checked in. Great room for exhibitionists!
We headed down to the bar for a drink prior to going out to dinner at the local Chinese restaurant, just for a change.
All in all a pretty unexciting day.
